The Malaysian cabinet has decided not to increase the electricity tariff for nine million domestic users in the country, Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob said.

This means the government has made a U-turn on its plan to increase domestic electricity tariffs.

This comes less than 48 hours after Energy and Natural Resources Minister Datuk Seri Takiyuddin Hassan announced that the new tariff for 2022-2024 would likely be implemented on February 1.

The prime minister announced the decision in a tweet this evening.
